This is a simple 1-oscillator synth based on "virtual circuit-bending". The initial idea started out as an attempt at making a bass synth version of the APC synth. It turned out to be impossible to get it to track pitch at all, so more experimentation ensued, and this is the result. It does track pitch, but often sounds will change across the keyboard or possibly even stop making sound at a certain key.
Some of the ideas used here will doubtless be put to use in a larger multi-osc synth, though whether an expanded version of this exact synth will be developed remains to be seen. |

Its pretty self explanatory. You have MIDI files with a bunch of CC, Tempo, NRPN and other junk data. These files may cause issues if you drag them into hosts or export them to hardware. So, you use MFS to filter out the files. Now you have pure MIDI note files that will play pefectly in any host and hardware.

* MFSc installs onto your computer and uses a ‘right click file’ context menu command. It only can process 1 file at a time.
* MFSp is a portable version that runs from removable media such as USB thumb drives, shared network folders optical media. It also supports multiple files dragged to the GUI or to the executable.

The major sketch pad is basically a step sequencer combined with a chorder. Each time it gets triggered by a midi note the step sequencer steps forward and each step can contain a new, different chord. The chords aren't locked to a predefined pitch. our entry for the kvr developer challenge 2009:
this synth uses 8bit fourcycle waveforms instead of an oscillator,there are 300 to choose from.
it is split into 4 parts; amp/pitch/filter/badness.
each with ADSR and 2xLFO's(tempo-syncable or free).

This is a not-quite-technically-correct stereo frequency shifter (with seperate controls for the left & right channels) based on techniques seen on this web page: http://www.cim.mcgill.ca/~clark/nordmodularbook/nm_spectrum_shift.html
The reason for this not being technically correct is that doing this the right way would require a lot more CPU. This implementation only achieves true frequency shifting in a certain range of frequencies, while frequencies outside of this range get an effect closer to ring modulation, which is still interesting. |

- CC Value Limiter: Choose a CC to limit within a certain range. Multi Channel Key Range / Transpose.
- CC Controlled (or not) MIDI Transposer: It acts on any channel, and when on, any CC assigned to increase/decrease transpose will be filtered.
- CC Time Blocker: Some buggy MIDI controllers will send more than just a 127 and a 0 value when you don't want, this is to prevent any clandestine CC to get thru, which otherwise would ruin, for example, tempo tapping. When enabled, only one message of the CC you specify (and only the values 127 or 0 get thru) will be allowed within the defined time period.
-CC64 Emulator: Just a test tool, instead of sending the CC64 (sustain) out, it will filter it and mimic its effect with note on/offs.
- CC Inverter: Inverts a CC's value (i.e. if it's 127, it will become 0), this is aimed at inverted sustain pedals, some older controllers don't have the option to reverse the polarity.
- Aftertouch To CC: Remaps aftertouch/channel pressure to the desired CC.
- MIDI Random Note Delay: introduces a configurable random delay on every note on message, up to 200ms (which is clearly too much). For example, to provoke slight timing drifts in layered instruments of a brass section.
- CC-Controlled Channel Switcher: Define an origin channel, a destination channel, and a CC to change the routing from original->dest. For that CC's value <= 64: originalChannel. For that CC's value > 64: originalChannel->destCh. Note: any MIDI message except note on's from the original channel will always be doubled into the destination channel as well, this is to prevent any surprises.
- Velocity-Controlled Channel Switcher: Instead of a CC, any velocity value above the specified trigger will change the note's channel. Except this difference, all the rest from above applies.
- VST Metronome: A very simple metronome for practicing purposes, outputs audio or MIDI "ticks" (configurable channel/notes), can be run synchronously or asynchronously with the host's tempo.
- Chord Note-Channel-Switcher: J made this for making brass section chords. If you only play one note, the original channel will go thru unchanged. When 2 or 3 notes are played at the same time, the original channel will be routed to the ones defined for low/mid/high notes. Since in real life you'll never hit the two/three notes in the same exact instant, the algorithm calculates the lower / mid / higher notes each time a note on message is received, so if you have already pressed two keys and press the third one later, the ones that are not according to the new low/mid/high calculation will be "noted-off", the channel change will be made, and new note-ons will be sent again. |

It is based on reactive synthesis and captures that reed EP sound by reproducing both the reed motion and pickup response. LE456 is a preamp sim roughly based on a piece of famous German gear.
LE456 has 2 channels and 2 modes per channel. Each channel/mode share the same features. Apart from the usual tone controls (drive, low, mid, high and contour), each channel/mode offers two different tone stacks that can be accessed via the focus switches. Bottom and bright switches can be used to boost the low and high frequencies respectively. On the low gain channel only (Clean/Crunch), the effectiveness of the bright switch decreases with the gain settings. |

Mothman 1966 is a two oscillator, two LFO synth that uses standard subtractive synthesis. It has three custom waveforms in the two oscillators - one is a "diamond wave" which was created using FM synthesis and the waveform image resembles a diamond; two is an 8 bit, buzzy and gritty, saw wave; three is a woodwind wave, used to create flutes and other wood instruments. TAL-Reverb is a free open source stereo plate reverb based on juce. Its very diffuse and has its own sound because of its special signal routing. Slight modulated delay times avoid artefacts in the reverb tail and give this reverb its smooth sound.

The thinking behind the synth is to emulate the early single oscillator mono-synths like SH-04 etc. The oscillator is specially modulated to create a noisy, unstable sound which for some sounds is really wonderful and organic. The filter is firy and at times a bit tempramental (not smooth and polite like modern synths) so a compressor is highly recommended.

This is another "noisebox" synth, similar in attitude to the previous SG-APCX (in that it is designed to be used as a sound effect generator more than a standard synth), but based on a completely different method of sound generation. Based around two sound generators- one that uses a math formula capable of chaotic behavior, and another which is an oscillator-synched noise source. The combination of these two sources produces a wide range of strange sounds, from clicks & beeps to grinding mechanical mayhem. Another interesting feature present in both versions is the "data corruption" effect, which adds another level of chaos to the mix. This is something like a software circuit bend which taps the audio stream at several points along its path, randomly mangles the signals in various ways (which are affected by various combinations of control signals from the synth's modulators) & mixes the mess back into the output. |

The "WSS" stands for Wave Shaping Synth. This is a subtractive synth based on an idea inspired by my K2000. By no means an emulation, it merely makes use of waveshaping techniques similar to a couple of the K2000's DSP algorithms. Think VA with a twist, and some nice modulation options.
It was called DSS1 until someone reminded me of the Korg machine using the same letter/number combination. |
